Juanita Johnson
Juanita Johnson, 94, of Mexia, passed away Feb. 9, 2024, in Mexia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Jones Funeral Services Chapel. Interment will follow at Wortham Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service, starting at 1 p.m.
Mrs. Johnson was born on Jan. 1, 1930, in Kirvin to Horace Leonard and Hallie Cleere Teer. She had been in the community since birth. She retired from the Mexia State School, where she was a supervisor on Shamrock.
Juanita was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness Congregation, and family was everything to her. The thing she looked most forward to was the annual family reunions. Juanita was truly the matriarch of the family. She raised her grandchildren and her home was always open. She sold Avon, enjoyed gardening, canning, making jellies and shelling peas while watching “Hee Haw.”
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Johnson; daughter, Brenda Cowart Stone; sons, Jimmy Cowart and Marvin Cowart; granddaughter, Lori Murray; sisters, Dorothy Hilschen and Margaret Rogers; and brothers, Freddy Teer and LaDayle Johnson.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Dillan Cowart Davidson, Stacy Faglie and husband Jack of Mexia, Shawn Todd and husband Joe of Brownwood, Jerred Cowart of San Angelo, Troy Stone of Novice, Travis Cowart of Abilene, Candace Cowart Mowrey of San Angelo, and Jordan Carter of Hamilton, Ala.; son, Jackie Cowart and wife Anne of San Angelo; brother, Bobby Teer of Corsicana; daughterin- law, Luisa Cowart of San Angelo; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and extended family.
Serving as pallbearers are Nathan Todd, Chipper Hill, Jordan Carter, Troy Stone, Austen Harris and Randy Castlow. Honorary pallbearers are Zach Morgan and Cecil Allen.
