JIMMY LEE VAN WINKLE
Jimmy Lee Van Winkle passed away at his home in Shiloh on Jan. 27, 2021, at the age of 81. Funeral services were to be at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 29, at Calvary Baptist Church, with Frank Pruitt and the Rev. Shane Norcross officiating. Interment was to follow in the Shiloh Cemetery, with the Rev. James Hooper officiating. James Trantham, Robert Murphy, Bill Garner, Zack Van Winkle, Laramie Willis, Fred Samford, James Smalley and Jason Lane were to serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were to be Danny Lummus, Charlie Morris, John Pevehouse, Cecil Sandifer, J.T. Vickery, and L.V. Cooper.
Visitation with the family was to be prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church.
Jimmy was born on Aug. 27, 1939, in Groesbeck, to J.R. and Eather Cooley Van Winkle. He had been a lifelong resident of the place he loved and called home, Shiloh. Jimmy served on the Shiloh Cemetery Association for many years. Prior to working for the Shiloh Water Supply for 31 years and owning and operating Van Winkle Sand and Gravel, he was a mail route carrier for the USPO for 12 years and an employee of Brown Oil and Gas. Jimmy also had a bicycle shop in Mexia in his early years.
Jimmy was a family man, a Christian, a true friend to many, and he treated people the way he wanted to be treated – with respect. He loved his family, and they always knew they could count on him when there was a need. He was really crazy about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a feeling that was certainly mutual. Jimmy was the kind of man who was willing to help most anyone. He grew up in the Shiloh Baptist Church and was a member for many years. In 1964, he became an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia, where he taught the boys Sunday school class.
Jimmy was a hard worker and was involved in many things, but he found a little time to tinker with something else, tractors. He enjoyed buying old tractors, fixing them up and selling them. He also enjoyed visiting with people at any time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.R. and Eather Van Winkle; his wife, Sharlett Van Winkle; and brothers, Leland and Curtis Van Winkle.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Vee Van Winkle, of Shiloh; children Micky Van Winkle and wife Dayde and Ricky Van Winkle and wife Barbara, all of Pt. Enterprise, Randy Van Winkle, of Waco, and Shelli Van Winkle, of Hilltop Lakes; stepchildren Tammy Moss and husband Boone, of Glen Rose, and Trischelle Van Winkle, of Mart; grandchildren Zack Van Winkle and Marcelina, of Dawson, Casey Willis and Laramie, of Marquez, Madison Van Winkle and Victor Luna, of Mexia, and William, Ashton and Charlie Moss of Glen Rose; and great-grandchildren Rhiannon, Danava, Tamaryn, and Indigo Van Winkle, Weston and Colt Willis and Julian Luna.
