Jerry Lynn Taylor

Jerry Lynn Taylor, of Groesbeck, passed away at home on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at age 82.

Family and friends may visit and pay their respects at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Thursday,Aug. 22, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday,Aug. 23, in LaSalle Cemetery, with the Rev. Clifton Jones officiating.

Jerry was born July 24, 1942, toA.J. Taylor and Emma Florence Denman Taylor in Harris County. He grew up in Baytown and was a senior at Robert E. Lee High School, when he quit school and joined the Army. After completing four years in the Army, Jerry returned to high school and graduated from Channelview High School.

During his Army service, while Jerry was stationed in Hawaii, his oldest son Brian was born. A number of years later, his second son, Michael, was born in Caldwell.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Jerry started working on his journeyman electrical certification, and worked as a lineman. For a while after that, he drove a truck, primarily hauling cattle, also known as driving a bull wagon. He went back to working as a lineman, restoring power to communities after storm damages. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Jerry was united in marriage with Janice Coe on July 18, 1983, and they lived in Mexia before moving to the LaSalle community where he remained the rest of his life.

Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved a fishing trip with his cousin to El Salto, Mexico. He had a “cowboy nature” from the time of his high school years when his “JC” group assisted in rodeo events, and he continued to enjoy watching rodeo events all his life. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races, which was an interest he shared with his son, Brian.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Alice Joan Hammock; and his wife, Janice Taylor in 2016, and grandson, Caleb Taylor.

He is survived by his two sons and a stepdaughter, and their families: son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Linda Taylor of Jasper and their children, Andrew Taylor, John Burges, Crystal Brumek and her son Damien Brumek, Misty and husband Cody Stires and their three daughters, Ashlyn, Kinley and Paisley; son and daughter-inlaw, Michael and Amy Taylor of Highland, Ill., and their children Jordan Taylor, Tobie Taylor, Daniel Taylor, Chloe Huelsmann and Seth Huelsmann; his stepdaughter, Karen McGuffie, her son Dillon Mc-Guffie and wife Glenda, and his children, Caitlyn and Megan; and Jerry’s nephew, Jay Coe of Groesbeck.
