Jerry Allen Rogers
Jerry Allan Rogers, of Wortham, passed away April 8, 2023, in Mexia at the age of 72. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Ken Hanssard officiating.
Jerry was born in Mexia on June 4, 1950, to John Albert and Margaret (Teer) Rogers. Wortham was his home for most of his life; he was a graduate of Wortham High School, Class of 1968. Jerry was described by his classmates as being “unhurried, unworried, a patron of cloud nine.” Evidently, this was truly the way he lived; he made the most of every day by enjoying it and living life to the fullest.
Jerry’s family was the joy of his life. He loved his sons, but his grandchildren truly owned his heart. He was a very happy and proud grandfather. He also treated everyone just as he wanted to be treated, with respect, and he never met a stranger. Jerry enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, hunting arrowheads, and looked forward to going to the Cliff Dwellings in Colorado every year. He, like most people, loved a good meal. Everyone knew if they were going to go out to eat with Jerry, you were headed for his first choice, a place to eat chicken, or his second choice, barbecue.
Jerry was a member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Mexia.
Jerry was a prison guard for many years in Groesbeck, prior to retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Rogers.
Jerry is survived by his sons, Kyle and Kory Rogers; grandchildren, Skylet “Joey” Rogers, Derreck Rogers, and Raziel Rogers; brothers, Johnny Rogers of Mexia, Kevin Rogers and wife Helen of Wortham, and considered as a brother, Marcos Ponce; nieces, Yolonda Lewis, Julie Rogers, Kendall Gann, and Kevyn Rogers; nephews, Zachary Rogers and Jonathan Rogers; mother of his children, Susan Horton; best friends, Tony Bennett and Rex Willhelm.
