JAMES ALTON PORTER
James Alton Porter passed away on Jan. 16, 2021, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia at the age of 93.
James was a loving father and grandfather.
He was born on April 14, 1927, in Meridian to Jess and Nora Porter. He drove a school bus and was a janitor for the Mexia School District.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Becky; his parents; his son, Alton Edwards Porter; and grandson James Ray Porter and his 10 siblings.
He is survived by his eight children, Danny and Floyd Porter, of San Angelo, Diana Varona, of New Mexico, Jesse and Norma Porter, of Mexia, Lynetta and husband Glenn Rickard, of Dunnsville, Va., Edna and husband Jerry Lowery, of Midway, Virginia Walker, of New Mexico, and Duane and wife Colleen Porter, of Missouri, Beth and husband Lucas Smith, of Fairfield. Mr. Porter had 19 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Porter attended Victory Full Gospel Church, in Wortham.
He loved to fox and coon hunt. For years he never met a stranger and he would give the shirt off his back to help anyone that needed.
Family and friends are encouraged to gather for a time of visitation of Thursday, Jan. 21, from 6 to 8 in the evening at Corley-Porter Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Friday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at Wortham Cemetery. Arrangements especially
