JAMES ‘JIM’ SELLERS

James “Jim” Sellers, formerly of Point Enterprise, died on Jan. 12, 2021, at The Rayburn Health and Rehabilitation Center in Jasper. He was born March 5, 1938, to the late Alvie and May Sellers. He was 82. Burial is in the Point Enterprise Cemetery.

Jim attended the old Point Enterprise School and Mexia High School. He worked and lived in Dallas and New Orleans, La., until he went to work overseas. It was in Scotland that he met and married the love of his life in 1975. They purchased a home there and lived in Falkirk, Scotland, until they moved to Jasper in 1979, where he owned and operated the Town and Country Exxon Service Center until his retirement.

Jim was a longtime and very active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jasper, where he happily and faithfully served in several capacities for the past 25 years. Although he was severely incapacitated in his mobility, he refused to acquire a Handi cap License. He parked cars at the church for people who had difficulty walking. Jim was well known for his daily walks in the beautiful Sandy Creek Park with his faithful dog, Chloe, who preceded him in death by six months. Everyone who Jim met, either walking in the park, at church or on the street, immediately became his good friend. There have been over 200 Facebook comments on his passing. He will be fondly remembered and missed by his family and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial at First Baptist Church of Point Enterprise on Jan. 30, at 1 p.m.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty Sellers, of Jasper; two daughters, Wendy Sellers, of Jasper and Shannon Tracy, of Houston; a son, Jeff Munn, of the Houston area; five grandsons, Blake Sellers, Michael Munn and wife Rachel, Wesley Munn and wife Amy, Ryan Tracy and Sean Tracy; granddaughter Jamie Marie Applebe; seven great-grandchildren, Maverick and Eliza Sawyer, James Scott Downs, Kyle and Gage Munn, and Kyle and Everleigh Tracy; a brother, David Sellers, of Point Enterprise; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Alvie and May Sellers; and both sisters, Judy and Anna.
