Glenda Nell Strickland Hamilton
Glenda Nell Strickland Hamilton, 80, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Tyler. Glenda was born on July 10, 1943, in Gatesville. to Sarah Nell Strickland and Gwendell Strickland.
Before her retirement, she was a beloved social worker for many years and was instrumental in spearheading various programs at the MHMR center in Waco. She frequently received requests to return to social work part-time during her retirement, but her social life kept her too busy and she was enjoying the freedom of retirement.
Glenda was known for her love of crafting, including counted cross-stitch, embroidery, and crocheting. Glenda, also known as Grandma, Grams, and GiGi, loved her family and was loved immensely by her family. She loved to spend weeks rotating staying with family members and would happily pack up her 18 bags of crafts and her overnight satchel and go visit another of her loved ones for a change of scenery. She took pride in making each family member feel special and loved.
Glenda is survived by her brother Russell, and wife Barbara of Lake Mexia; her daughter Darnell Marsh and husband Ron, of Big Sandy; her daughter Yvonne and husband Kenny Kayla of Bruceville; and son Rick Hamilton and wife Lisa of Lorena; granddaughter Crystal Roberson-Keahey and husband Jeff of Woodway; Kayla Roberson of Bruceville; Heather Matthews and husband J.T. of Tyler; Heath Marsh and fiancé Tiara of Big Sandy; Dayna Spear and husband Brandon of West; Samuel Hamilton of Lorena; Dalton Hamilton of Lorena; and her beloved great-grandchildren Ross, Rooney, Henley, and Trinity. She also leaves behind nephews Chris Strickland, Russell Stickland Jr., and Jimmy Strickland and wife Treasa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 57 years, Harry Wilkins Hamilton.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, at 10:00 a.m. at the Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia.
