GARY EARL TALBOT
Gary Earl Talbot, 78, passed away in his hometown of Mexia on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment was in the Mexia Cemetery. John York, Wes Kuehn, Justin Talbot, Kevin Nabors, Paul Yeldell, Kyle Taff and Anthony Pruitt served as pallbearers.
Gary was born on May 31, 1942, on his parent’s kitchen table in Dawson. He always joked, “I was born on the kitchen table and haven’t been far from it since.”
Gary loved to make people laugh. He was known for his uncanny sense of humor and quick wit and if you spent much time with him, you knew to be on your guard for trickery was sure to ensue.
He worked in Mexia for more than 20 years at Safeway and then went on to work 20 years at Mexia State Supported Living Center. After retirement, he enjoyed watching old westerns and going to the coffee shop, aka The Drillin’ Rig, to gossip with the ol’ timers (his words).
In September 2001, Gary married Carolyn Pounder. Gary had finally met his match. They loved going to the casinos together in Louisiana and Oklahoma, but mainly they stayed home and argued over what to watch on TV. They were completely devoted to each other throughout their marriage, each loving the other fiercely.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Talbot, and his parents, Lonnie and Estelle Talbot.
Left with a lifetime of colorful memories are his son, Ben Talbot and daughter-in-law, Chrissy Talbot; his daughter, Sarah Talbot-Haynes and son-in-law, Michael Talbot-Haynes; step-daughter, Lisa Pounder; grandchildren, Jessica Pounder and Jordan Pounder; his brother, Ron Talbot and sister-in-law, Ruth Talbot; nephews, Justin Talbot and Warren Talbot; dear cousins and wonderful friends.
One thing is certain, Gary Talbot will be greatly missed.
