Elnora Childs

Mrs. Elnora Childs was the seventh child of 17 born to James Baker and Maggie Baker on Nov. 2, 1918, in Limestone County. She went to be with the Lord at Mexia LTC Nursing & Rehabilitation in Mexia on Sept. 28, 2021.

Mrs. Childs confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of the Church of Christ in Mexia, under Pastor Gilmore.

Mrs. Childs grew up in Mexia, and she graduated from Good Oak school in Limestone County. She became a secretary at Ben Hur School in Mart. She was a Sunday school teacher at Grove Island Church in Limestone County.

She became the bride of Penny Childs on Dec. 17, 1936, in Mexia, and “God said unto them, ‘Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.’” To this union 11 children were born, Floydella, Maggie, Lenora, Jimmie, Catherine, Tommie, Howard, Francis, Louis, Marvin and Ed.

Her life exemplified one of the commandments, “Love.” The love of God was first and foremost in her life, followed by the love of her family and friends.

Mrs. Childs is now at peace, resting in the redemptive love of the Lord Jesus Christ. A life lived as she lived cannot die but live on in the heart of those who knew and loved her. Mrs. Childs leaves to lament in her home-going, Lenora Morris, Catherine Holman, Howard Childs (Pat), Francis Shelley (Ira), Willie Childs (Seneca), Marvin Childs (Linda), Ed Childs (Bonita); daughter-in-law, Theresa Childs; grandchildren, Shelia Garrett, Tonya Armstrong, Gregory Willis, Gwendolyn Fountain, Sharon Veal, Dewana Morris, LaSonja Dilworth, LaQuinta Holman, Will Childs, Seneca Childs, Dexter Shelley, Varje Shelley, M.D. Childs, Raymond Childs, Ed Childs Jr. and Brianna Childs; grea-grandchildren, Gabrielle Fountain, Riley Fountain, Brittney Willie, Xavier Willie, Brannon Veal, Morgan Lester, Chase Lester, Aniquae Banks, Jasmine McDonald, Jayd McDonald, Kasie Delley, Chanese Shelley, Patrick Dilworth Jr., Jaxson Holman, Sean Childs, Vdevin Childs, William Bonner, Mona Jean Childs, Akemi Childs, Eisha Arbuthnot, Dawnmonique Childs, Prince Banks, Majestei Banks, Messiah Banks, Darrien Childs, Morgan Childs and Kaizlynn Childs; great-great-grandchildren, Aria Bowman, Zoey Bowman, Willow Childs; sister, Willie Mae Thomas; best friend, Miss Eubank at the nursing home; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as other close relative and friends.

Service for Mrs. Childs was held on Oct. 4 at Westside Church of Christ of Mexia. Arrangements entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home.
