ELIZABETH ‘BETTY’ ALLEN
Elizabeth E. “Betty” Allen, of Mexia, entered her heavenly home on April 25, 2021, at the age of 80. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 1, with the Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Wesley Allen, Frank Haskell, Gary Juarez, Andy Smiley, Drew Allen and Clifton Kirven will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.
Betty was born on March 11, 1941, in Clay County, Ill., to Ople and Ethel Kelm. Betty entered into marriage with Harold L. Allen on Nov. 26, 1964, in Springfield, Illi,, and celebrated 56 loving years before Harold preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 2021. Betty cherished their lives together and missed him dearly.
Betty is survived by her children, Jennifer L. Allen, of Spring, Jody M. (Frank) Haskell of Liberty Hill, and Wesley T. (Diane) Allen of Spring; grandchildren Holly Haskell and Carrie Haskell.
Betty was preceded in death by infant son Martin E. Allen; parents Ople and Ethel Kelm; brothers Howard Kelm and John Kelm; and sister Myrtle Neeley.
Betty held a variety of jobs throughout her life, with most involving working with children, whether in a daycare setting, school, or ECI (Early Childhood Intervention). The career that she enjoyed most was working with children in their homes, through ECI. Betty taught Sunday School and VBS for many years, and cherished her time leading a Sunday school class at a local nursing home.
Betty was a loving helpmate to Harold and was his caregiver in his final years. Betty was a prayer warrior, praying daily for her family, her church family and friends; and she fervently prayed for our country and leaders. Betty desired for everyone to hear the Gospel, and to come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Betty enjoyed attending church, Bible studies, and listening to sermons. Betty was an encourager to everyone. Betty loved her family and photos, and she never wanted to miss a photo opportunity. Every holiday there had to be a photo of the family around the table full of food. Anyone who came to visit Betty was sure to be presented with as many photo albums to look at as they could stand. Betty was a true example of a Proverbs 31 woman and will be greatly missed. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her and were touched by her life.
