Dwain ‘Bubba’ Jones Jr.

Dwain Jones Jr. was the second child born to the union of Dwain Jones Sr and Jewell Gee Jones on June 25, 1946, in Prairie Hill. Dwain was fondly known as “Bubba” by family and friends.

Bubba accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized. Bubba was a faithful and dedicated member of Mustang Baptist Church since an early age and served as head deacon, superintendent of the Sunday school and as a member of the choir for many years. He was also a member of the Gospel Tones, formed by the Jones family.

His hobbies include watching sports, “the westerns,” going to the race track and fishing. Bubba also enjoyed going to town for his morning coffee, buying the daily newspaper, visiting his cousin Curtis and visiting Aunt Rosie’s daycare where he was known as “Uncle Bubba” to the children.

Bubba graduated in 1964 from Anderson High School in Mart. Soon after graduation, Bubba was drafted into the United States Army where he served as a Light Weapons Infantryman in the fall of 1968. He subsequently completed Basic Training at Ft. Bliss, Texas, and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Ord, Calif., prior to going to serve in Vietnam the summer of 1969. Bubba was medically retired from service in the Fall of 1970 at Fort Sam Houston. During his two years of honorable service, Bubba earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Marksman Badge (Rifle M-16), Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle M-14) and Good Conduct Medal.

Bubba served as a faithful member of the following organizations:

• Board of directors of Caritas for 8 years which is a charity organization to assist those in need. He helped with the food drive each year and traveled to Waco often to get food for the pantry.

• Sandy Creek Cemetery Association where he served as vice president for 28 years.

• Prince Hall Grand Masonic Lodge of Texas since 1973. He served as a junior deacon, junior warden and senior warden for many years and served as Chaplain until his death.

• Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas of Mt. Rose #104, Holy Royal Arch Masons. He was appointed as special deputy to District No. 10 on July 8, 1993, April 17, 1997, and August 20, 1997.

• United Brotherhood for 30 years where he was an original member.

Bubba was preceded in his death by his parents; his brother, Leon Jones; and daughter, Monika Cooper.

On Feb. 9, 2019, Bubba went to his eternal home to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Liduvina Jones; his children, Akeila Jones, Tiffany Burnett (Ronald), Terry Whitehead, Kenneth Whitehead (Michelle), Chauncey Moore (Kimberly), Alfred Moore (Erricka), Damita Johnson (James) and Wilmer Cooper, Jr.; siblings, Herman Pinkard (Helen), Rosie Gipson (Chester), Betty Harris (Odell-deceased), Bill Jones (Glenda), Albert Jones (Florence), Charles Jones (Annetta) and Brenda Kirven (Johnny); sisters-in-laws, Carolyn Jones (Leon-deceased), Cuizelle Council, Yolanda Redic and Hermalinda Diaz; 24 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home. Service will be held Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. at Mustang Baptist Church of Prairie Hill.
