Clarence Dean Ferguson

Clarence Dean Ferguson, 86, of Axtell, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Clarence was born on May 11, 1938, in Freestone County, to Recil and Callie Allison Ferguson. After high school, he worked as a shrimper in Rockport. While in Rockport, he met the love of his life, Carmelitta Faulkenberry. Clarence married Carmelitta on April 12, 1957, in Elm Mott, and they were blessed with 67 wonderful years together. Just prior to their marriage, he had begun what became a very long career with the Pepsi Company as a salesman. Clarence worked his way up the ladder and after 42 years of service retired as a district manager. During his career, he was recognized as top salesman multiple times.

Clarence’s family was his pride and joy. He was a devoted and loving husband and father, but there was nothing that could compare with being a grandfather, great grandfather and greatgreat grandfather. He also had an outgoing personality and was well known for his sense of humor. Clarence’s family remembers him as always having a “comeback” for everything. He was very witty and always had a humorous response.

Clarence was a member of the Texas Gamefowl Breeders Association. He was very respected in the gamefowl community and recognized by the association for his sportsmanship and contribution to the promotion of the gamefowl breed. In addition to hunting, he also enjoyed fishing and playing dominoes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Clark; and brother, Tommie Ferguson.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Carmelitta; children, Christina Steele and husband, Don, Carl Ferguson and wife, Kelly, Carolyn Barnard and husband, Mike, Connie Morrow and husband, Terry, and Charles Ferguson and wife, Rachel; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one greatgreat grandchild; brothers, Jearl Ferguson, Johnnie Ferguson, and Jonor Ferguson; and sisters, Betty Tabor, Josie Lanford, and Bobbie McCormick.

Visitation with the family was 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Pastor Johnny Tull officiating. Interment will follow in the LaSalle Cemetery.
