Billy Ray Patterson

Billy Ray Patterson was a selfless Christian, dedicated family man and friend to many. He entered his heavenly home on Sept. 20, 2024. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. at Faith Fellowship Baptist Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Justin Colquette officiating. Avisitation was held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Services in Mexia.

Billy was born on March 4, 1955, to Billy Jack and Charlene Patterson of Mexia, where he spent most of his life. He began his career with Texas Oil and Gas in his 20s and later retired from Marathon Oil Company. He became a father in 1976 to his daughter, Brandi Nicole Martinez.

Billy married his beloved Medra on May 1, 1996. Upon their marriage he stepped in as father to Emily and Haley Plemons, and they made their home in Fairfield.

He later gained his prized title of Paw Paw to Blake and Ryan Martinez followed by Fynlee Plemons. Billy’s retirement was filled with countless hours spent with his grandchildren. He spent lots of time with his family and serving others. He could best be described as someone who never met a stranger. He was often seen visiting with anyone he saw out and about. Being a member of Faith Fellowship Baptist Church was a large portion of his life and he enjoyed sharing The Word with friends and strangers alike.

Hunting, fishing and flying were his hobbies that took up any extra time he had. We all know he dedicated a large amount of his time to his Punkin, but he saved a little for his own hobbies. Billy and Medra loved traveling to car shows together to show off the Stingray.

Billy never turned down an opportunity to serve others. Everyone needs a Billy.

He was preceded in death by his mother Charlene, his sister Jackie, his daughter Brandi, nephews Adam, Michael and Landon.

He is survived by his father, Billy Jack; sisters, Susie and husband Kenneth, Burke, and Jan and husband David Rusnak; wife, Medra; daughters, Emily and husband Richard, and Haley and husband Ben; grandchildren, Blake, Ryan and Fynlee; bonus grandchildren, Ashlee, Tristen, Kylie, Dylon, Delaney and Hayden.

Billy was surrounded and supported by his Faith Fellowship family, numerous friends, and extended family. He was a Paw Paw to many – related or not.

Honorary pallbearers are Blake Martinez, Ryan Martinez, Rusty Broussard Bob Jaecks, Russell Hall, David Deffner, Jerry Sheppard, Ronnie Henry, Kyle Henry, John LaCasse,Bryan Tristan and the Deacons of Faith Fellowship Baptist Church.

Billy was a founding member of Faith Fellowship and spent at least a little of each day there. He was dedicated to the growth and expansion of the church with special attention to the new building. In lieu of flowers we ask that you donate in Billy’s memory to the new building fund at Faith Fellowship Baptist Church., Faith Fellowship, P.O. Box 1146, Fairfield, TX 75840.
