Stephen Fuller Trantham

Stephen Fuller Trantham, of Mexia, passed away Dec. 11, 2024, in Dallas, at the age of 66. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15, at Northcrest Church of Christ with Mr. Robin Wright and the Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment was in the Mexia Cemetery. Eddie Walker, J.R. Walker, Keith Smith, Daryl Burrell, Dustin Parsons, Tre Craig, Andrew Evard and John Elder served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the True Value Team.

Steve was born April 5, 1958, in Mexia, to Russell White and Mattie Mae Fuller Trantham. He was also known as “T Bubba,” a name given to him by his younger brother, Mike. He was a lifelong resident of Mexia and a graduate of Mexia High School, Class of 1976. Steve married the love of his life, Cheryl Walker, on June 10, 1978, in the Point Enterprise Community, near Mexia. Steve loved his hometown and was a true Blackcat, through and through. He, literally, followed the Mexia Blackcat football team wherever they played. He was a member of the Blackcat Booster Club; not only did he attend the games, he also attended the practices as well. He, along with a few others that were also diehard fans, took many road trips together over the years. His family called Blackcat Field – “Heart of Champions,” his second home.

However, Steve’s love for God, family, and friends was first and foremost in his life. He was happiest when his family was all gathered together. Although he loved his wife and boys, his love for his grandkids was greater, spending time with them was the highlight of his life. Steve was a faithful Christian. He was an active member of the Northcrest Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for many years. Steve had also served as a member of Habitat for Humanity and as a volunteer firefighter.

Steve had a big heart, an outgoing personality, never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone. He enjoyed talking to anyone at any time no matter who they were or where they were. Steve enjoyed working in his shop; he could fix anything because he wouldn’t give up until he accomplished the task.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Mattie Trantham.

Steve is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cheryl Trantham; sons, Bryan Stephen Trantham and wife Katie, of Richland Hills, Bradley Stephen Trantham and wife Jordan, of Mexia, and Russ Walker Trantham and wife Erin, of Argyle; grandchildren, Harper Faith Trantham and Rhyder Wayne Trantham; and brother, Michael Trantham and wife Cindy, of Allen; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and numerous friends.
