Orion Walter Easterling

Orion Walter Easterling passed away Nov. 1, 2024, in Dallas at the age of 96.

Funeral services will be 12 noon, Saturday, Nov. 9, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Shane Norcross officiating; family visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Lost Prairie Cemetery.

Orion was born in Personville on Jan. 12, 1928, to Willie J. and Lee Baker Easterling. He grew up working with his dad on the family farm in Personville, planting crops and raising livestock. During those days, farming was their livelihood, and it took everyone working together to get the job done. When he turned of age, he joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country during WWII. He returned home and went to work the Mexia Cotton Mill and then moved to Dallas to work for Chance Vought as a sheet metalist.

Orion loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them whenever possible. He also loved animals and for many years raised chickens, goats, and horses. He enjoyed playing 42, just riding around looking at the countryside, and loved Jim’s Fried Chicken. Anytime he returned to Mexia, he had to stop at Jim’s.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lee Easterling; wife, Hazel Easterling; son, Ralph Easterling; and siblings, Janie Morton, Marjorie Jones, Charles Easterling, and Delton Easterling.

Orion is survived by his son, Lynndell Easterling and wife, Tina; daughter, Phyllis Patterson and husband, Curtis; grandchildren, Orion Patterson, Amanda Easterling, Melissa “Missy” Dushane, Michelle Easterling, Kelly Patterson, and Brittany Rivera; 11 great grandchildren; and brother, Phillip “Tink” Easterling.
