Grace Marie Sykes Hallmark
The city of Santa Fe, N.M., was hallowed by the presence of angels at 3:27 a.m. April 6, 2024, as they came to escort home a precious saint of God. Grace Marie Sykes Hallmark was born Oct. 8,1932, in Dawson to Albert and Birdie Sykes. She was the fifth of nine children. She married Preston Williams in 1951, and they pastored churches and evangelized until his death in 1960.
Grace married Harvey Hallmark in November 1974, and they had one child, Bryan Allan Hallmark. They pastored churches in Corsicana and Mexia and served God and the community all their lives.
Grace loved her family and her church with all her heart, and she was always willing to do whatever she could to minister. She was named honorary church mother at her home church, One Church in Mexia, as well as her church in Santa Fe that was pastored by her son. She was loved by everyone who met her. She had a sense of humor and loved to laugh and play tricks on her nieces and nephews. She loved to use her leaf blower while riding her scooter around the yard, and if you got in her way, she would blow you with it. She was an amazing cook and was dietitian for Corsicana Nursing Home and The Manor Nursing Home in Mexia before retiring in 1994.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Birdie Sykes’ brothers, J.D. Sykes, Leo Sykes, Ralph Sykes, Hudine Sykes and Bobby Sykes; and sisters, Cleo McGary, and Louise Webb; and stepson Clinton Hallmark.
She is survived by her son Bryan Hallmark and wife Cindy; stepdaughters Donna Duckworth and Taloa Willis; her sister, Nelda Pendergraph; grandchildren Joshua Hallmark and wife Gabby, Nathan Hallmark, and Ashley Steeken; step grandchildren Jeff Willis, Candice Serrata and Alan Hallmark as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her presence on earth will be missed, but one day soon we will reunite with her in Heaven to never part again.
Services are planned for Thursday, April 11 at 10 a.m. at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia. Burial will follow at the Mexia City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home.
