William Franklin Orr

William Franklin Orr, 95, passed away Sunday, Oct.15, 2023, in Groesbeck. He had made his home in the Forest Glade vommunity over the past several years.

William Orr was born March 26, 1928, in Plain Dealing, La., to Oscar Orr and Blanche Castle Orr. He worked in the oil field and made a career as a driller and safety consultant for Delta Drilling Company. William also served in the Marines from 1946 to 1947.

William was best known for his love of honeybees, hummingbirds, cats and fireworks. One of his best pleasures was wrestling with the grandkids as well as being a “kid at heart” himself. He was a prankster and loved doing tricks on others, especially assuring anyone near the water would be pushed in.

William is survived by his children, Marie Purcell, Frances Kilgore, Carolyn Moore, William Orr, Dennis Baker, Richard Rogers and Kelly Rogers; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Blanche Orr; and his beloved wife, Nelda Orr. He was also preceded in death by his children, William Orr Jr., Carl Eugene Orr and Glenn Rogers; daughter inlaw, Carol Orr; sisters, Yunie Snelgrove, Margie Orr Tippell; brother, Oscar Orr Jr.; and great-grandchild, Tanner Thomas.

The funeral service for Mr. William Orr will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. at Blair Stubbs Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Wes Wiley. Pallbearers are John Orr, Daniel Thomas, William Purcell, Willliam Rogers, David Rogers, Nathan Rogers. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Blair Stubbs Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Mexia City Cemetery.
