A Brazos County jury has found Dabrett Black guilty of the capital murder of DPS Trooper Damon Allen on Thanksgiving Day 2017.
Allen, 41, of Teague, was shot and killed while sitting in his patrol unit after pulling over a vehicle on Interstate 45 in Freestone County, near Fairfield. According to reports, Black opened fire with a rifle.
With the guilty verdict, Black is now sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole – a sentencing deal made before the trial began that took the death penalty off the table in exchange for the defense waiving an insanity defense.
