GWEN MCDONALD SLAINE
Gwen McDonald Slaine was born Aug. 4, 1949, in Groesbeck to Walter L. McDonald and Lovie Matthews McDonald. Gwen grew up in Groesbeck and attended Groesbeck High School, graduating in 1967. She passed away Nov. 13, 2021.
In 1968, Gwen attended Prairie View A&M University in College Station, majoring in nursing. After completing nursing school, Gwen moved to California, where she met and married James Slaine Sr., an editor at San Francisco Post Newspaper. Gwen lived in California as a devoted housewife until her husband’s death. Gwen moved back to Texas until her death.
At an early age, Gwen was baptized at Dennis Chapel United Methodist Church of Groesbeck. She participated faithfully in may church activities. She was the church announcement clerk and Church Secretary.
Gwen was a very devoted mother to her two children, James and Nicole. She was a very knowledgeable person. She loved to read, listen to the radio, paint and garden. If anyone knew her, they would know that she would never ever forget anything. She would remember everything, even until her death.
Loved ones who preceded in her death were her husband, James Slaine Sr.; father, Walter Lee McDonald; mother, Lovie Mae McDonald and brother, William (Willie) McDonald.
Left to cherish her memories were a daughter, Lanitra Nicole Slaine; a son, James Slaine Jr. of Groesbeck; granddaughter, Jada Slaine of Dallas, three brothers, Don (Geneva) McDonald of Waco, Melvin (Marion) Johnson of Streetman and John Matthew of Los Angeles, California; sisters, Betty Hodge of Groesbeck and Francine (Rev. Jerome) Hobbs of Groesbeck; special cousin, Eula Mae Gibson of Groesbeck; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Graveside service was held on Nov. 20, 2021, at Lone Star Cemetery in Groesbeck. Arrangements and service entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home.
