Burn ban is on
Mexia News Staff Report
Limestone County commissioners enacted a county-wide burn ban at a special meeting they held Friday morning, Sept. 17.
Effective immediately, outdoor burning is prohibited in all unincorporated areas of Limestone County.
An offense is punishable by a fine of up to $500.
According to the proclamation, the court made the decision based upon the court’s finding that :
• There have been prolonged dry and windy conditions that have contributed to the absence of ground moisture and the existence of dry vegetation in large portions of the county;
• Weather forecasts indicate the dry, windy conditions are projected to continue;
• These circumstances create a public safety hazard that would be exacerbated by outdoor burning; and
• Limestone County meets the drought criteria necessary to prohibit outdoor burning.
The burn ban will continue until the earlier of 90 days from this date or the date the commissioners court terminates this order.
