CHARLES JOHNSON
On Tuesday, July 13, 2021, Charles Lee Johnson went to be with his Lord and Savior.
Charles was born Jan. 29, 1930, in Thornton, to Floyd Lee and Vida (Maiden) Johnson. He served in the Air Force for four years, before returning to marry the love of his life, Bonnie Samford Johnson, on Dec. 28, 1954. Charles worked for Southwestern Bell, which later became AT&T, for 40+ years. After retirement, Charles loved to travel with Bonnie and numerous relatives across the United States or spend time at the family lake house. He especially loved his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather and took great pride in spending time with his great-grandson, Jacoby. As a husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather he was deeply loved and cherished. He was always there to help if anyone was in need. Charles was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church in Mexia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Vida Johnson; and brothers, Foy Johnson of Personville and Edwin Johnson of Mexia. Charles is survived by his wife, Bonnie Johnson; daughter Debra Burns; granddaughter Melanie Abor; great-grandson, Jacoby Abor; sister Geneva Scott, all of Mexia; brothers Cecil Johnson and wife Rita, and Donald Johnson and wife Joann, of Personville along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation was held at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home, Wednesday, July 14. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 15, at Temple Baptist Church, with interment at Lost Prairie Cemetery. Pastor Michael Vestal officiated. Allan Stewart, Randy Johnson, Billy Crawford, Ricky O’Pry, Joe Samford and Brian Samford served as pallbearers.
