LaVerne was born Aug.10, 1958, in Fort Worth to Curtis and Lila May (Witte) Kirk. She retired from Mexia ISD after teaching for a combined total of 30 years. LaVerne was a very dedicated teacher; she loved her job and the children she taught. She looked for, and usually found them, ways to make learning fun and interesting. She will be remembered by the many children, most of whom are now grown, for the positive impact she made on their lives.
LaVerne’s life revolved around her love for God, family, and friends. She was very loving, caring daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She had an outgoing personality and met everyone with a beautiful, friendly smile. She was an active member of the Sun Valley Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her father, Curtis Kirk.
LaVerne is survived by her husband, Bryan Riddle; two children, Layne Riddle of Corpus Christi and Wade Nolan Riddle and wife, Evelynn of Mexia; four grandchildren, Wesley and Arya Maine, Celestria Riddle, and Daniel Wilson; mother, Lila May Kirk; and brother, Vernon Kirk and wife, Connie of Glen Rose.
LaVerne has always said that at her funeral, she would like for people to dress casual. Only those who didn’t know her, didn’t love her.
