County fair to kick-off with barbecue, concert this weekend

The annual barbecue cook-off and kick-off concert are on track for this weekend, put on by the Limestone County Fair Association.
Check-in for the barbecue cook-off is at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 29, at the Show Barn. Categories include brisket, pork spare ribs and chicken. Entry fee is $200 a team. Jackpots: Cook’s Choice $25 on Friday at 7 p.m.; beans Saturday at 10 a.m. Judging will take place Saturday: noon for chickens (two separate 1/2 fully jointed chicken halves, to include breast, wing, thigh and drumsticks); 1:30 for park spare ribs (9 individual park spare ribs); and 3 p.m. for brisket (9 full slices). The concert is set for the following day, Saturday, March 20. Performing at the concert will be Lanky Moore, 7:30-9:30 p.m. and Sam Shupak 10 p.m. to midnight. Vendors will also be there, selling food, beer, Kona Ice, water and soft drinks.
The other usual events – including the parade, 42 Tournament and washer and horseshoe contests – were postponed this year.
