RICHARD BOND KERZEE
Richard Bond Kerzee, former Mexia businessman, passed away at his home on Jan. 1, 2021, at the age of 84. Graveside services were held Sunday, Jan. 3, in the Point Enterprise Cemetery, with the Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Brett Beene, Chet Beene, Johnny Ingram, Neil Dancer, James Pullin and Richard Kerzee served as pallbearers.
Richard was born Jan. 25, 1936, in Point Enterprise, to Alton Bennett Kerzee Sr. and Addie Bond Kerzee. He attended school at the Point Enterprise school through the 8th grade and graduated from Mexia High School, Class of 1954. Richard married Bula Mae Farmer on Nov. 23, 1956. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1958; he was stationed in Rapid City, South Dakota. After returning from the Army, Richard went to work for Otis Engineering for 17 years, prior to accepting a job with Cudd Oil Company. He retired as Vice-president of Cudd Oil Company after spending a total of 25 years in the oilfield business.
Richard and Bula moved back to Mexia; and he opened his own business, A-1 Auto Parts Store, and operated it for almost 20 years. He was not happy unless he was working at something. He began working at an early age, and from then on always had a job. He believed not only in working but also in the importance of demonstrating a good work ethic.
Richard enjoyed country life and he loved his horses. He raised Clydesdales and Paint horses to show for many years. He also enjoyed buying and selling tractors. Richard was outgoing, liked being around people, and especially enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee and donuts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Addie Kerzee; brothers Alton, Rollin, Jerry and Wilmer Kerzee; and sisters Frances Fowler and Louise Prather.
Richard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bula Kerzee, of Mexia; sister Martha Beene and husband Elmer, of Mexia; brother Maurice Kerzee and wife Pam, of Bracketville; sister-in-law Jerri “Red” Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.
