Jean was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Frosa, to Alton J. and Vergie Evora Brigance Person. She has been a resident of the Mexia area for many years. Jean was a longtime employee of White & Gillespie Drug Store, and after it sold she went to work for Brookshire’s Pharmacy. She was never one to be idle, she preferred working and enjoyed visiting with those she served.
Jean was a faithful Christian, her love for God and family were the most important things in her life. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Just as most grandmother’s, she enjoyed nothing more than visits with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; they had a way of brightening up her day. She also loved her church family and was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Jean enjoyed landscaping her yard, especially with rose bushes, her favorite flower. She was a talented harmonica player and a good seamstress in her early years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Vergie Person; husbands, Delmar Burke and E.L. Gatlin; an infant granddaughter; brothers, J.C. Person and Euell Person; sister, Edna Faye Cotton; and nephew, Jerry Cotton.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Judy Seelinger and husband Chester of Mexia; grandchildren, Chet Seelinger and wife Jenny, and Kasi Seelinger; great-grandchildren, Chance Watson, Hannah Seelinger and Ryan Seelinger; nephews, P.W. Cotton and wife Sherry and Jimmy Cotton and wife Karen; niece, Janet Cotton; sister-in-law, Mary Burke; and a number of other extended family members.
