Miriam Glynn Jenkins Bounds
It is with a sad heart we share the passing of Miriam Glynn Jenkins Bounds on Wednesday, March 25, 2020.
Miriam was born on March 10, 1931, in Streetman to Frank Bates Jenkins and Willie Fair Sherrod Jenkins. She graduated from Brenham High School in 1948. Upon graduation, she moved to Dallas, where she married Gene Alan Bounds in 1949. They made a home in Dallas and created a close and loving family with their three children, Gene Alan Jr., Sharon and Sandy. The family grew up splitting time between Dallas and managing the Bounds’ ranch in Wortham. Following the death of her husband, Gene, in 1972, Miriam remained in the Dallas area and continued to raise her children.
In 1977 she married Finis Edward “Buddy” Brennan. They moved to Kaufman and later moved to the ranch in Wortham. Buddy died in 1990.
In 1993 she married Clyde Lemoine Bounds. They also lived at the ranch in Wortham. Clyde died in 2006.
Miriam was a woman of strength who met all challenges without complaining and relied on a quiet unwavering faith in God. She was made of grit, common sense, kindness and compassion and was an inspiration to many. Miriam was a great cook and shared that with the community through bake sales, cake auctions and church potluck dinners. As head of the church food committee, she was constantly cooking and organizing events to the point you wondered how she had time to run a ranch or cook for her family. After all family meals everyone was always sent home with a “care” package.
Miriam was a leader in her church and a vital part of the United Methodist Women. She was a loyal friend who always had compassion for others and was widely respected. She will be missed by many.
She was dearly loved by and predeceased by husbands Gene Alan Bounds, Buddy Brennan and Clyde Lemoine Bounds; siblings Audrey Jenkins, Abe Jenkins, Marjorie Milazzo Weathersby and Marion “Mike” Jenkins; and stepson Jack Bounds
Her survivors include Gene Alan Jr. and his wife, Michelle, Sharon Hooks, Sandy Mick and her husband, Rick, Darlene Haywood and her husband, Mark, Denise Adam, Mike Brennan and his wife, Inga, Cherry Kay Wolfe and her husband, Mike, and Edward Bounds; grandchildren Jenie Leigh Edwards Abbotts, Melissa Mick, Jennifer Mick, Jimmy Frideley and Stephanie Haywood; and numerous great-grandchildren as well.
A private burial will be held at Birdston Cemetery. A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be sent to the North Texas Food Bank or First United Methodist Church of Wortham.
