Mr. Merritt passed away June 29, 2019, at The Manor Nursing Home in Mexia after a lengthy illness.
Brian Lee Merritt was born Feb 26, 1957, in St Louis, Mo., to Bobby Gene and Verda May Merritt. He grew up and graduated high school in St Ann, Mo., then moved to Houston in 1977. While in Houston he took an interest in the Bible and the promises that God has in store for mankind. He was baptized as One of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 11, 1981. In addition to fast cars, he had a great love of the outdoors and the natural beauty of creation. He loved to hunt and fish but he didn’t like to kill the animals. He just loved being there with his dad and brother watching the animals while they did the hunting.
Brian moved to Teague after marrying Mary Susan McAlpine on Aug. 1, 2007. Brian was finally in a setting that he enjoyed – in the country away from the busy city life. Brian worked for Mexia S.S.L.C for nearly 10 years as the grounds supervisor, a job that he loved and thoroughly enjoyed. One of his favorite things to do was keep up his yard at home. After a long day of mowing at work, he would come home and mow his own yard, whether it needed it or not – grass or no grass – he loved to mow and keep up his yard. On time off from work, he enjoyed trips to the local lakes, not necessarily to fish but just to bait a hook and be out there.
Brian is survived by his wife, Mary-Susan, of Teague; five sons, Robbie and wife Brandy, Gabriel, Johnathan and wife Summer, Logan, and Tyler, all of the Houston area; four grandchildren, Adam, Mackenzie, Abagail and Khloe; one brother, Robert and wife Wendy LI, of Shenzhen, China; one sister, Valerie Sweeney and husband Frank, of St. Louis; one niece and one nephew, Heather and Oliver; one aunt, Doris, of Illinois; two stepsons, Chris and wife Rosella McAlpine, of Waco, and Aaron and wife Miriam McAlpine, of Teague; and two stepgranddaughters, Brooklyn and Bridgett McAlpine.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, a niece and a nephew, and a stepgrandson.
