Although the Toys for Tots 2021 Drive actually began Oct. 1, Alvis Minter of Mexia, who is in charge of the program in Limestone, Freestone, Navarro and Leon counties, said people in Mexia needing help through this program should sign up Nov. 29-30 at the Presbyterian Church.
Thanks to a generous donation by the Limestone County Republican Women, the Sheriff’s Office now has $15,000 earmarked for bullet proof vests. The group presented the large check to County Judge Richard Duncan and commissioners at their regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9. Linda Kay Alston spoke about the group’s recent Chilli Supper, and how their donation goal steadily grew as they exceeded their own expectations.
The veterans of our military services have put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms we enjoy. They have dedicated their lives to their country and deserve to be recognized for their commitment. American Legion Post 288 of Groesbeck honored veterans with a Veterans Day ceremony Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Limestone County Courthouse.
The approximate 2-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 84 eastbound toward the Limestone/ Freestone county line is in the “process of preparation” to be repaved, but in the meantime traveling across the stretch of road is a little rough, noisy and perhaps a little dangerous.
