Gate is open; won’t you come home?

I’ve never owned a chicken myself, though the lady next door did when I was a girl growing up in southern Arizona. I’d wake up to rooster crows many a sunny mornin’. But this week I read about a recently published book titled “My Fine Feathered Friend” by William Grimes, a restaurant critic for the New York Times. I had to order it after I read the review.

Garden club award goes to ranch

The Mexia Garden Club is proud to award the Civic Pride Award to Cedar Isle Ranch owned by Patty Manley. The Bradford Fruitless Pear Trees around the swimming pool put on their beautiful blossoms to let everyone know that spring is near. The roses are beginning to cover the rose bushes. Hay always available for the cows. The hay is grown on the ranch in the spring and summer. Then cut and baled for the cows in the winter. Water conservation is always on the mind of the owner as they have no city water to rely on. They are their own water system which is a whole other story. Cedar Isle Ranch is a member of the Mexia Chamber of Commerce and pays Mexia ISD school taxes.
