AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott on May 26 issued a proclamation giving the green light to more services and activities in a second phase of the state’s plan to reopen from mandatory pandemic closures.
The Mexia Lions are doing their part to get life back to normal by planning their annual Red, White and Blue Car Show on July 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Mexia.
The lifting of the virus restrictions came just in time for the Mexia Chamber of Commerce’s 90th Annual Rodeo. The event will run Thursday, June 25, through Saturday, June 27, with a double-header each day: a morning rodeo at 11 a.m. and an evening rodeo at 7:30 p.m. Any slack, or overflow contestants, will compete Wednesday, June 24, at 7 p.m.
Like many cities across the United States recently, Mexia held a protest Wednesday against racism and police brutality. An estimated 150-180 people met at the Mexia Civic Center at 6 p.m., with leaders speaking on the steps of the Center and the main group gathering on the opposite side of McKinney.
