Mexia city manager warns of possible snow, hard freeze this weekend.
Mexia News Staff Report
The National Weather Service is predicting snow across New Mexico and Texas on Saturday and Sunday, “some of which could be heavy.”
“We've been tracking the approaching winter storm,” said Mexia City Manager Eric Garretty, “and the current models indicate that, here in Mexia, we are likely to receive a snow/rain mix or a maximum accumulation of 1" to 2."
“Our greater concern is related to the potential for a hard freeze/plunging temperatures during Sunday, Jan. 10, night into early Monday morning, Jan. 11.
Garretty made the following points:
(1) Temperatures below freezing, and sustained winds with melting snow, will likely make bridges/overpasses hazardous due to icing, e.g. Hwy 84 overpass and the bridge by Wal-Mart.
(2) Please remind everyone to make sure faucet covers are in place on outdoor spigots and to take other precautions to prevent frozen/ruptured water lines.
"As a reminder," Garretty said, "everyone who is signed up for our reverse 911 system, and has elected to receive weather alerts, will receive updates/notifications from the National Weather Service.
"Signing up for the reverse 911 system," he added, "is fast, easy and free; please visit www.hotready.com for more information."
