Tony Johnson

Tony Johnson was born to the parentage of the late Gwendolyn A. Solomon and Castiderra Calhoun in Teague, on Aug. 3, 1976. He attended public schools in Mexia, and he graduated in Beaumont.

At an early age, he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined Union Baptist Church in Mexia, where he was baptized. He was joined in matrimony with Cammecia Strain in March of 2004, and this union was blessed with one son. Tony had a generous spirit and an outgoing personality; and he was loved by many. He quietly departed this life on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his mother; son T’Aveon Johnson; grandparents Quincy Graves, Eddie Lee Calhoun, Leola Calhoun and Ozzie Solomon.

His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Cocreoshia Gamble, Jmyia Strain and Joel Strain; granddaughters Zhiya, Te”asia, Jaelynn, Ka’Lani; father Castiderra (Rejenne) Calhoun Sr., of Waco; stepfather Darell Solomon Sr., of Dallas; his loving grandmother Freddie White; brothers Gregory (Catina) Johnson, Darrell Solomon Jr. of Mexia, Texas, Chris (LaTonya) Solomon of Norfolk, VA., Castiderra (Jessica) Calhoun, Derek Degrate, Denero Degrate, Cameron Calhoun and Caleb Calhoun, all of Waco; sisters Darrilyn (Raybon) Solomon, Lateshia Solomon, of Mexia, and Chastidee Calhoun, of Waco; and a host of nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and friends. Amongst them a special aunt, Pamila Johnson, and a special friend, Tamela Abor.

Services for Mr. Johnson will be Saturday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. at Northcrest Church of Christ in Mexia. Services and arrangements entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home.
