PEGGY JEAN GOODMAN CANNON

Peggy Jean Goodman Cannon came into this world on Oct. 21, 1931, with a “fighting” will to live at only 3 pounds. She was born at home in Mexia. Her incubator was a shoe box placed on the extended oven shelf with heated rocks around it to keep her tiny body warm. Her baby bottle was an eyedropper. Her small face was the size of a silver dollar. Her odds were slim, but she fought through it! A miracle by God! Psalm 139:13-16

Ninety years later, she has had a lifetime of joy, happiness and a few sprinkles of heartache. After falling and not being able to recover from it, June 30, Peggy’s fight came to an end. With that “fighting” spirit she was born with, it carried her through to the end. Fought the whole way. She left this temporary world in peace and with no suffering. She has now seen the face of Jesus … her Lord, Savior and Creator!

Peggy’s younger years were spent in her hometown of Mexia. She was involved in many activities with church and school. Attending her church, First Baptist Mexia, she served in Sunday school, bible studies, church camp etc., she was fulfilled spiritually, along with having a personal relationship with her Lord. Attending Mexia High School on game night, she led the football game halftimes as Major-ette. Peggy also played the bass clarinet for her school. While dating her high school sweetheart, Lindon, Peggy graduated from Mexia High School and left to go to North Texas State University in Denton. She lasted one semester and came back to marry the love of her life at age 18.

Peggy’s and Lindon’s wedding took place on Feb. 18, 1950, and within the 72 years of marriage she raised two girls, Cheryl and Cindy. She was a full-time mom! Blessed to be involved with her girls daily. Peggy cherished her time with her four grandchildren, and her four great-grandchildren. Unfortunately, she didn’t get the opportunity to meet her great-great grandson that just came into the world.

Peggy and Lindon lived most of their life in Lubbock and Arlington and retired in Granbury. Peggy had a heart for her Lord and people. Family and friends were her life! She served and prayed for people. She was a member of Fielder Road Baptist Church and on the prayer team. Peggy loved Bible Study Fellowship, loved to cook, entertain, sew, camp, water ski, play tennis, play bridge, travel to different countries, go on cruises, shop, she was the President of the Arlington Woman’s club and President of Pecan Plantation Woman’s club, always volunteered to help and never met a stranger along the way! She knew she was blessed!

Peggy now stands at the feet of Jesus and worships Him with others that have gone before her. Peggy was loved by many, and the world was a better place because she was in it.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Florine Schilling, Irene Bowden, Evelyn Foster and Joyce Cassidy; and son-in-law, Richard Jones.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Lindon Cannon; daughters, Cheryl Pinner and husband, Johnny and Cindy Jones; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 9, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Burnett and Palmer Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Thornton Cemetery. Patterson Jones, Palmer Jones, Nathan Pinner, Noah Pinner, Johnny Pinner, and Jay Pinner will serve as pallbearers.
