Mattie Dean Sellers
Mrs. Mattie Dean Sellers was born Mattie Dean Thompson on Aug. 27, 1940, in Malone, to S.D. Thompson and Anetta Cooper Littlejohn. Both her parents preceded her in death. Maddie attended Phyllis Wheatley High School in Hubbard, and graduated in 1959. She later went to college and received an Applied Science Degree in Child Development with a 4.0 average.
Mattie entered in holy matrimony with Ernest Charles Johnson and became Mattie Dean Johnson and was married until Ernest Charles Johnson was called to be with the Lord. They were blessed with six children, two of whom preceded her in death, Charlene Johnson and Vertice Johnson Burns.
Mattie later married Edmond N. Sellers Jr., and no children were born to this marriage.
Mattie had two brothers who preceded her in death: Essie D. Thompson and Willie Littlejohn, and one sister who preceded her in death, Barbara Thompson Johnson. Mattie loved to attend many different churches, but was a faithful member of Christian Lighthouse Church, under the leadership of Pastor Danny Sellers, Assistant Pastors Myron Sellers and Brenda Sellers.
Mattie leaves to cherish her memories two daughters: Sharon La’Rue Johnson-Hall and Leatrice (Billy Ray) Johnson; two sons, Donam Charles Johnson and Ronald Kevin Johnson; brothers Ronnie Thompson, Velton Thompson, Ricky Thompson and Ellis Ray Brown; three sisters: Carolyn Thompson, Debra Thompson and Cassandra Thompson; 17 grandchildren: Ronsha Johnson, Jerry Johnson Sr., Shanna Johnson, Sheeka Johnson-McClendon, Twannia Johnson-Brown, Billy Ray Johnson Jr., Harles Johnson, Alisa Johnson, Merquite Feliciaho Bailey, Donam Johnson Jr., Sahmar Mitchell, Nadija Roberts, D’Kevion Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Jordon Johnson, Nathan Johnson and Benjamin Johnson; 28 great-grandchildren: Brianna Johnson, James Devonta Johnson, Darion McClendon, Kentazia McClendon, Tristan Johnson, Taeneece Johnson, Tre Knight Sr., Kimberley Johnson, Aliayha Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Jr., Kevin W. Johnson, Kyra Jones, Blayne Willford, Latakia Collins, Kiron Johnson, Diamond Hill, J’Kala Johnson, Deion Jackson, Mia Feliciano, Jassie Feliciano, Kaiana Roberts, La’Quesha Roberts, Zion Roberts, Bryson Roberts, Sahmar Mitchell, Cordae Mitchell; 10 great-great-grandchildren: Devonta J. Johnson, Jamie Johnson, Tzen Johnson, Delaney Johnson, Brilynne Johnson, Za’ Rya Johnson, TreKnight Jr., Stella Knight, Keilea Knight, Kayden Collins and a special nephew, Onterio Thompson.
Mattie’s funeral service was held on Jan. 4 in Hubbard, at Christian Lighthouse Church at 11 a.m. Arrangements and service entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home of Mexia.
