Jimmy Spurlock
Jimmy Spurlock of Mexia, passed away Aug. 13, 2019, in Waco, at the age of 73. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bill Wright Jr. officiating.
Jimmy was born Dec. 27, 1945, in the rural area of Farmerville, La., to J.D. and R.V. Bridges Spurlock. He graduated from Farmerville High School, Class of 1963. After graduation, he came to Mexia to visit his brother and sister-in-law, Mack and Bennie Spurlock. Bennie introduced him to Betty Ingram, and they married March 11, 1966, and were blessed with one son, Darrell. Although, Jimmy never outgrew his love for his Louisiana home, Mexia has been his home for the last 52 years. He was a truck driver most of his life, retiring from Aggregate Haulers in Mexia.
Jimmy had an outgoing personality, a kind caring heart and was willing to help anyone he could. He loved his family and friends, and possessed a special love for all kids. He loved the country, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising cattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and R.V. Spurlock; brothers Grayson, Mack and wife Bennie and infant brother Johnnie; sisters Billie Ruth Jarrell, Callie Frost, Kathelene Bryan and Mary Spurlock; brother-inlaw David Montgomery; and sister-in-law Perri Ingram.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Betty; son Darrell Spurlock; nephew (like a son) Mike Jarrell; sisters Martha Rockett and Betty Stidham; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Royce Jarrell, Steve Frost, Kenny Bryan, Sharron and Fred Samford, Jan Montgomery, Jimbo and Sissie Ingram, Johnny Ingram, and Tricia and Bill Wright Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
