With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mrs. Bobbie Jean Thorne, formerly of Mexia. She passed away peacefully Dec. 15, 2019, at Providence Hospital, in Waco, surrounded by countless loved ones who will cherish her memory always.
Born Nov. 30, 1932, in Bald Prairie, Bobbie Jean was vibrant and tireless, even in her 87th year. She was the second of ten children born to R.C. and Jessie Davis.
She is survived by siblings Margaret Laverne, Margie Dell, Mary Jane, Donald Ray, Jackie Wayne, Randy Carter and countless nieces and nephews. Bobbie Jean was also survived by one son, James David Kerley, of Saipan, three granddaughters, Melissa Renee of Los Angeles, and Jennifer Nicole and Jessica Lauren, of Tomball; and four great-grandchildren, of Tomball.
At age 34, Bobbie Jean married the love of her life, James “Bruce” Thorne and traveled the world with him as a devoted wife of an oil-and-gas pipeline worker. After returning to their Texas roots, they built their own homes, grew their own food, owned and operated a gas station, and ran cattle before finally retiring in Mexia. Bobbie Jean remained active in the community well after her beloved Bruce passed in 1998. She never knew a stranger, simply because she made a friend in everyone she met.
Bobbie Jean dedicated her life to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 19, 1962. Her extraordinary kindness and hospitality were an example for us all.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 1005 N. Red River in Mexia, at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday Jan. 4, 2020. All who wish to celebrate the life of Bobbie Jean are invited to attend, with a reception to follow at the Fort Parker Recreation Hall.
