DELTA MAE STERLING
Delta Mae Sterling passed away June 7, 2022, at the age of 72.
Delta was born Oct. 7, 1949, in Groesbeck, to Dorothy Pearl and Osten Lohanny Alewine. Her father served in the Navy while her mother took care of the home. Delta grew up with her siblings, Wanda, Viola, Linda and Rodney in Mexia and had a wonderful, loving childhood. She went to school in Thorton until the seventh grade.
Delta married Barry Lee Sterling in Mexia on Jan. 28, 1966. She loved being a stay-at-home mother to her daughters, Elizabeth, Barbara, Jan and Michelle. While it was sometimes difficult taking care of them by herself while her husband was deployed in the Army, Granny Ruby helped out a lot. Delta enjoyed watching her soap operas during the day and getting fixed up for her husband. A loving caretaker of many, not only was she a wonderful mother, but helped raise some of her grandchildren as well. She cared deeply for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always wanted to spend time with them.
Delta loved reading, shopping, and doing her hair and make-up. No one ever saw her without these done. Even though she was prissy, she was always ready for an adventure and enjoyed going on runs with her husband Barry when he drove trucks. An outgoing woman, she was very involved in the VFW Women’s Auxiliary 4694. She loved her books, bon-bons and her angel figurines. She enjoyed Cheetos, sweets and a cold Coke to wash them down.
Delta leaves behind her children, Elizabeth Sterling and her husband James Price, Barbara Price and her spouse Pete Price, Jan Sterling, and Michelle Bennett and her spouse Scott Bennett; her grandchildren, Amanda Calame of Wortham, Avis Kimbeni of Naples, Joshua Price of Burleson, Justin Price of Mexia, Jennifer Molina of Teague, Jason Sterling of Mexia, James Price of Mexia, Alisha Lopez of Kosse, Christy Utsey of Kosse, and Daniel Sterling of Kosse; and her great-grandchildren, Kynlee, Kasen Kameron and Kix Calame, Mattie, Xavier and Zaylie Kimbeni, Joshua, Jaxson and Johanna Price, Sophia, Marcus, Jazmin, Lillian and Carlos Maline, Alexander, Alexa, Terrance, Bethany and Trenten Lopez, and Jason Jr. and Savannah Sterling.
In order to honor her life, the family planned a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at Corley-Porter Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Corley-Porter Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cobb Cemetery in Thorton.
Corley-Porter Funeral Home is honored to handle the arrangements for Delta Mae Sterling.
