Kay Sellers Mohundro
A memorial service for Kay Sellers Mohundro will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at Point Enterprise Baptist Church with Bro. Don Morton and Bro. Joey Crenshaw officiating. Kay passed away on July 5, 2022, at Nacogdoches Medical Center surrounded by her family; husband, David Mohundro, daughter, Amanda Sellers; and her grandchildren, Rhiannon and Jacob Gresham.
Kay was born March 15, 1947, in Mexia to David Sellers and Jewel Carter Sellers.
She was preceded in death by her son, Josef Eric Mohundro; mother, Jewel Hinchliffe; stepfather, Maurice Hinchliffe; and stepmother, Millie Sellers.
In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by her father, David Sellers of Mexia; two sisters, Gail Peyton of Teague and Stephani Hardy of Altadena, CA niece, Hillary Chandler; and nephews, Eric Batts, Preston Batts and Zack Erickson.
After graduating from Mexia High School in 1965, Kay attended Navarro Junior College and Stephen F. Austin State University, where she received her master’s degree in education.
After settling in Nacogdoches, she married David Mohundro in 1985. Prior to retirement, Kay’s 30-year career as a teacher was primarily spent teaching and helping disabled and special-needs children. She loved to cook and was a talented artist.
Kay was a beautiful, caring person whose love and friendship will be missed by all who knew her.
There will be a second memorial service held for Kay at her home in Nacogdoches, at a later date, to allow those who knew her and loved her in Nacogdoches for many years to honor her as well.
