Louise Sanders Collins
Funeral services for Louise Sanders Collins, 68, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at First Baptist Church in Teague. Brother Bill Sutton and Brother Scott Matthews will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Union Cemetery near Freestone.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, with the family present, at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague.
Mrs. Collins passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, at the Skilled Care Nursing Home in Mexia.
She was born in Groesbeck on Jan. 28, 1951, the 13th of 15 children born to Carl T. and Ruth (Sutton) Sanders. Louise was one of nine of those children born with a hereditary heart disease which she battled all of her life. She grew up in the Old Union and Oletha Communities and graduated from Groesbeck High School with the class of 1969. Louise married Glenn Collins on Dec. 31, 1969, and shared almost 50 years of marriage together. She lived in Houston with her husband and worked for Traveler’s Insurance Co. before moving to Teague in September 1973. She was a dedicated wife and mother to her son. Mrs. Collins returned to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Mail carrier in 1981 and worked for 25 years before retiring. She enjoyed working on her farm, baling hay, checking cows, growing flowers, and she loved butterflies. Mrs. Collins professed her faith and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Teague and joined the church on March 23, 1975. She was active in her Sunday school class for many years and loved her family more than anything.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn Collins of Cotton Gin; one son, John Collins of Cotton Gin; three grandchildren, Kade Collins, Kall Collins, and Kai Collins; three brothers, Carl T. Sanders Jr., Wade Sanders and wife Jackie, and Charles Sanders and wife Darlene; one sister, Joan Ferguson; numerous nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Robert Sanders and wife Dorothy and a special niece, Nonie McManus; and many cousins and friends.
Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by 10 siblings, OraLea Johnson, R.L. Sanders, Jimmy Ray Sanders, Loy Sanders, Faye Texter, Glen Sanders, Larry Sanders, Reba Kerzee, Kenny Sanders, and Jo Sanders.
