Charlse Ann Moody

Charlse Ann Moody was born on Friday June 3, 1932, in Coolidge on her grandparents, Charles and Dollie Bell Yelverton’s farm. She passed into her heavenly home on Sunday April 14, 2019. Her parents were Tee Lee and Bess Moody. Bess died when Charlse was 2 years old, and her father later married Maureen Hancock Strickland.  

Charlse married Dr. Ennis R. Holmes on June 19, 1969. This union bore one child, Holly.

Charlse is preceded in death by her three parents; two sisters, Dolly Kathleen Mitchell Crawford and Jamie Jean Strickland Allen; three nephews, Charles and Fred Mitchell and Andy Moore; and one niece, Lynda Holmes Loveless.  

Charlse is survived by her sister, Mary Tee Moody Moore and husband, Lecil of Irving; ex-husband and longtime friend, Dr. Ennis Holmes; daughter, Holly Kuehn and husband, Heath of Tehuacana; grandsons, Christian Kyle Ellison of Austin and Cameron Keith Ellison and wife Shelby of Groesbeck; great-granddaughter, Blakely Kate Ellison; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Charlse graduated from Coolidge High School and went on to obtain her Associates Degree at Westminster College and Bachelor of Science from Sam Houston State Teacher’s College.  She taught school for Coolidge, Mexia and Groesbeck ISDs, the Mexia State School, and for Navarro College’s ABE program, completing 50-plus years in education.

Charlse served in many civic services during her lifetime, including the Coolidge Garden Club, the Fraternal Order of Rebekah, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW #4694 where she was currently serving as Guard.  

Charlse was a devoted Christian servant, friend, mother and grandmother. She humbly gave of her time and thoroughly enjoyed helping all those she loved and cared for, including her students. She instilled in her daughter, grandchildren and students the hunger for knowledge and shared education, independence, service, and loyalty. She was a mother to many and was known as Granny to most who knew her.

Pallbearers are Michael Holmes, John Hunt, Stephen Le-Noir, Ty Wiley, Kyle and Cameron Ellison. Honorary pallbearers are Wes and Matt Kuehn.  

Family visitation will be held at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home on Thursday, April 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Graveside service and interment will be at Tehuacana Cemetery, Friday, April 19, at 11 a.m.
