Vera Keeling Quigley
Vera Keeling Quigley was born Oct. 30, 1940, in Marquez, to Mary Carr Keeling and Luther Keeling.
She moved to Mexia at an early age and attended Dunbar schools in Mexia. At an early age she dedicated her life to Christ at Mexia Revival Center under the Rev. L.C. Wright. Later in life she dedicated her life again and lived her life to serve the Lord.
In her lifetime she worked at Mexia State School for many years until she was disabled. She was a caregiver and homemaker later in life. She fought a brave battle until the end. Her granddaughter Aniquae Childs Banks serving as her nurse until the end.
She was preceded in death by her by her parents and step-mother, Katherine Keeling; four sisters, Joyce Eggins, Luther Mae Smith, Mary Alexander and Beulah Dubreuil; and one son, Raymond Quigley.
She was married to Horace Quigley for over 25 years. Five children were born to this union. Later in life she found new love with Rossie Lee Foreman whom she was with for over 20 years until his passing.
She passed away on April 6, 2019. She leaves to cherish her memory: Two daughters: Mary (Charles) Ann Quigley, of Temple, Linda (Marvin) Children, of Mexia; two sons: Kenneth Quigley, of Mexia, and Robert (Felecia) Quigley, of Glen Heights; one sister, Barbara Robinson, of Mexia; brothers Will Keeling, of Dallas, Daniel Keeling, of Dallas, Jesse (Kristina) Keeling, of Abilene, and Wade Keeling, of Mexia; one uncle, Clyde Chatham, of Marquez; aunts Lucille Chatham, of Spring, and Lina Mae Pratt, of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren Aniquae (Brandon) Banks, Marvin Children Jr., Raymond Childs, Ali Quigley, Robert Quigley Jr., Kaylee Quigley, Caden Quigely, Haylee Quigley, Brittany Quigley, Adrian Quigley, Shameika Quigley and Renaye Johnson. She also leaves behind 19 great-grandkids, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others; special friends Sister Mary Cobbs, Sister Alice Beasley, and Sister Ruby Reed.
Services for Ms. Quigley will be held April 13 at 3 p.m. at Westside Church of Christ in Mexia. Service and arrangements entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home of Mexia.
